Rules for Pickup of Brush and Leaves
The Town will only pick up “MINOR” tree trimmings unless it is storm related.
Brush must be cut up in 5 ft or less lengths, stacked as close to the street as possible with the cut end toward the street (but not in the street, alley or sidewalk). Anything with thorns must be tied with 2 or more pieces of twine. All materials to be picked up must be able to be loaded easily onto our truck by one person.
No stumps, whole trees, whole shrubs, whole bushes, brush from fence rows or wooded areas, grass clippings, or yard/garden waste will be picked up.
The above items we can’t pick up may be taken to:

Leaves must be bagged in paper biodegradable bags. Free bags are available at the Utility Office in the fall. THESE BAGS ARE FOR LEAVES ONLY. NO burning of leaves is permitted in the street. Leaves, grass or brush SHOULD NOT be intentionally mowed, blown, raked, or stacked in the street.
Severe Weather/Outdoor Warning Siren
- A Tornado or severe weather warning issued for our area.
- Any threat situation to the Town of Greentown.
- Any other Natural or Man-Made Disaster.
The siren will continue to cycle the siren warning until the threat is over. There will NOT be an ALL CLEAR signal!
TESTING IS DONE…
- Every Friday at 1:00 p.m. from March thru Sept. 1st
- During Statewide National Weather Service Test
The test is cycled for about 1 minute.
Wastewater Customers
We are seeing the following items being flushed into our system:
- Rags
- Disposable diapers, diaper liners, baby wipes
- Q-tips
- Grease
- Candy wrappers
- Bottle caps
- Cigarette butts
- Toothpicks
- Tampons
- Applicators
- Mop heads
The items listed above should not be flushed into any sanitary sewer system, even though the manufacturer may say on the box “city sewer safe.” We ask for your help in keeping these items out of our system, which in turn will cut down on costly repair bills, down time, and possible failure of lift stations or clogged sewers belonging to the town (or possibly your own sewer line).

Bicycles/Skates/Skateboards
To protect our citizens and shopping at our local businesses, an ordinance is in effect prohibiting the use of bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates and scooters on the sidewalks in the downtown area. These items may be pushed or carried in this area. Please look for the posted signs!
Animal Control
The Town has an ordinance prohibiting animals from being at large, providing for impoundment, fines and requiring animals to be licensed and vaccinated. A copy of this ordinance and the fines imposed for violations is on file at the Town Hall. Licenses are available from the Liberty Township Trustee (765) 628-2402.
Storm/Ground Water
Under Ordinance #2010-2, the Town of Greentown prohibits, either directly or indirectly, any storm water, or surface water, ground water, roof runoff, sub-surface drains, sump-pumps, etc. to be discharged into any sanitary sewers. You will be required to remove such drainage from the collection system. If violations are not corrected, a penalty of $50.00 per month can be assessed.

To dispose of hazardous materials, such as common household chemicals, oil, fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, paint, electronic equipment, tires etc., call Howard County Recycling District, located at 4104 Cartwright Dr., Kokomo, at (765) 456-2274.

Town Hall is open 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Closed on holidays. Other exceptions may apply.
